Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) is a state institution of highereducation established in Lublin, Poland in 1944. It offers academic programmesat undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels at ten faculties.

About the university

Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin is the largest university in Eastern Poland, with the leading educational position and the highest standards of education. UMCS offers full-time and part-time programmes as well as evening courses in the form of long-cycle Master's degree programmes, first-cycle (Bachelor's) and second-cycle (Master's) programmes.University's educational offer is dedicated mostly to the young people from schools in Lublin Voivodeship and neighbouring regions who traditionally choose the academic Lublin, but also to foreign candidates, especially from the neighbouring countries - Ukraine and Belarus. We organize Polish language and culture courses aimed at Polish people from abroad and foreigners held by the UMCS Polish Language and Culture Centre.

International cooperation

Maria Curie-Skłodowska University is constantly cooperating with universities and academic centres abroad. Academic cooperation is carried out on the basis of bilateral agreements or through the participation of UMCS staff and units in project consortia. UMCS takes part in the Erasmus Plus Programme supervised by European Commission which gives its students an opportunity to undertake a part of their studies at one of the partner European universities or participate in an internship abroad, whereas University's staff can deliver lectures or undertake training courses there. Foreign students undertake first-cycle, second-cycle and third-cycle studies at UMCS within the exchange programmes and government grant programmes. Many of them participate in classes and lectures delivered in foreign languages, mainly in English. A large group of foreigners undertake Polish language courses offered by the Polish Language and Culture Centre. UMCS is constantly extending its international contact network in order to increase its openness to foreigners, create opportunities for its students to fully exploit the European field of higher education and to be an attractive academic centre for foreign students and scholars. The newly established cooperation of UMCS with China and Ukraine is developing particularly rapidly. In 2013 UMCS brought to life the original Chinese Art Centre in the new wing of the Main Library. The number of foreign students has increased substantially due to the active promotional activity, especially in Ukraine. Most of the foreign students come from this country, but there are also citizens from 12 other countries, including Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Georgia, Rom ania, Lithuania, Armenia. UMCS is the first Lublin university which has opened its information bureau in Lviv.
