The University of Lodz is one of the largest and most popular Polish universities. The number of international students is growing each year. In the calendar year 2013, over 1000 students international students studied at the UL within full time studies and one-semester exchange programs combined together. Most of them are from: Belarus, Ukraine, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey, Spain, but not only. The university is open towards international students as it has had many years of experience hosting them on campus. The atmosphere is truly international.
The highest standard of education is confirmed by the Certificates of Quality Assurance granted by the Polish University Accreditation Commission. UL is present in world rankings, such as the QS World University Ranking (there are only four Polish universities on the list), Webometrics or GreenMetric. In 2010, the University of Lodz had been awarded with the title of the University of the Year in the poll conducted by the Business Centre Club Students’ Forum; the University of Lodz took 3rd place in Poland for effective teaching in the field of Economics, as ranked by the Gazeta Bankowa (Polish banking newspaper); the Faculty of Law and Administration took 2nd place in the ranking by the Ministry of Justice, in terms of successful admission to legal apprenticeship.
There are close to 500 full-time students from all over the world at the UL. What is more, almost 400 Erasmus exchange students come each academic year. They are joined by many non-EU students with the exchange program called Mobility Direct. It is a new academic project for students of partner institutions of the University of Lodz which is addressed to BA and MA students who wish to study for one semester at UL, free of charge for the period of studies. In the academic year 2013/2014 the UL hosted close to 200 students from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Russia, China etc. (plans for the coming up winter semester 2014 only – 162 students applied!!!) A participating student is able to:
- spend a part of a degree program in a foreign country, in an international academic environment (over 70 different nationalities studying all together);
- discover a different educational system;
- improve foreign (eg. English) language skills;
- learn customs, history, and traditions of a foreign country;
- make new friends and have an unforgettable experience, also while travelling across the EU.
The School of Polish for Foreigners: The School of Polish for Foreigners at the University of Lodz is the biggest and the oldest school in its category in Poland. It was established in 1952. It offers basic Polish language courses as well as specialized Polish language courses in History, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Philosophy. Students can enroll in one-month, five-month or nine-month courses.
There are many fields of study that may interest a candidate taking up studies in the Polish language, but some of the courses are taught in foreign languages, including English, Russian and Spanish. Please see the updated information on: www.iso.uni.lodz.pl
