Volkan from Turkey about his time in Poland
Who are you? Briefly describe yourself (where do you come from, what do you study, etc.)
Cześć! :) I'm Volkan, 21 years old from Istanbul, Turkey and I'm studying Computer Engineering in University of Sakarya. Here in Poland I am an Erasmus student and I study Computer Science in Lublin University of Technology.
What has surprised you in Poland?
I think if I say "Everything" i wouldn't exaggerate it :) The weather was so cold. Even I felt minus 25 Celsius. If I am not wrong, every city has "old own" even some towns too. It's amazing :) Historical buildings with different shapes are very impressive. Polish people are so helpful but for every plus there is minus most of them don't know English although here is Eupean country. Alcohol is very cheap when compared with Turkey.
How did you come up with the idea of studying in Poland?
I have 3 reasons to study in Poland. I had 4 more (Spain, Portugal, Germany and Greece) choices too for erasmus but language of education was in their own languages except for Poland. You know learning a new language in short time is not easy. This is one of my reasons. The other one is money :) Poland is cheaper than many European countries thanks to currency. I hope Poland will stay with Zloty always :) So the last reason is geographical location of Poland. Here is almost in center of Europe it means its easy to travel other countries. ;)"
Do you remember the first days of studying in Poland? Describe the struggles you went through:
Yes, i participated intensive language course before my Erasmus began. So first day of studying was learning Polish ! =) It's different language to learn for me because of cases =) But well, i improved myself.
Tell us about the differences between studies in Poland and studies in Turkey:
Actually there is not too much differences but in here lectures are not only theoritical but also practical and you don't need to memorize the all formulas :)
Do you know any famous people from Poland?
Of course ! Fryderyk Chopin, Pope John Paul II, Maria Skłodowska, Jan III Sobieski, Nicolaus Copernicus, Paul Wasilewski (Wesley)
Describe the places in Poland, that have a positive influence on you:
Warszawa, think about a city where almost totally destroyed in WWII and reborn from the ashes. Now as I see, Warsaw is very modern and transportation system is quite good. Lublin, student city :) here is 5 universties, try to guess how many student study in Poland ;) Nightlife.. ! It can't be described you need to come and see :) Wroc-love :) A beautiful city with islets and dwarfs Krakow - I think one of the most historical cities, you should visit Auschwitz concentration camp and Wieliczka salt mine.
Tell us about the country you've always wanted to visit, but still haven't:
The USA, England and Japan :)
Have you made any permanent relations with polish students? What do you like in the most of them?
Well, I have many Polish friends, we spend time all together but time will show me how permanent these relations are. :) I will keep in contact with them for sure :)
Would you like to come back to Poland in the future? Why?
Absofuckinlutely! In future I'll visit Poland for sure. I've so many friends in here I wanna make a surprise them by coming again. :)
