Student from China and his time in Gdansk
Who are you? Briefly describe yourself (where do you come from, what do you study, etc.)
My name is Xianmei. I come from China. I studied my first year on University of Gdańsk- International Business. I am 23 years old. I like to meet new people and visit new places.
What surprised you in Poland?
I was glad that I met other students here from China. Poles are very helpful. Being in the library I asked for help one of the Polish student and received it. Sometimes we exchange text messages. It is very nice. Polish tradition also surprised me. Polish culture is quite different from the Chinese. I visited for example Krakow, Warsaw and Wroclaw. I love this cities.
How did you come up with the idea of studying in Poland?
My parents told me that it is worth traveling. I wanted to see how people live in another place. I wanted to study in Europe. I chose Sopot because it is a city by the sea. I find International Business. I wanted to learn also a new language.
Do you remember the first days of studying in Poland? Describe the struggles you went through?
Yes, I remember my first days of studying in Poland. Every scared me. At the beginning it was hard to find a new culture. New people, new school, new language, a new place of residence. The first day I went to the beach. I remember it like yesterday. It was difficult for me, but I thought it was an adventure. Opportunity to meet friends. A gentle breeze was blowing, and I looked in front of him. I felt the freedom and space to the new challenges.
Tell us about the differences between studies in Poland and studies in China?
It is easier to describe the similarities. The differences are many. Way of teaching, attitude of teachers. In Poland, I felt free. I was able to learn a new city. I also noticed that in Poland there is a lot of helpful people. There is a nice atmosphere. The University in Sopot offers the opportunity to develop and if the student wants to have the perspective of the end of education.
What do you like about studying in Poland?
I love the spontaneity and human interest. Study in Poland opened my eyes to the life that I did not know. European culture is different. It is worth exploring. While studying at university I liked was that I had time for myself and to travel. The session was not easy. Sometimes I spent half a day in the library.
Do you know any famous people from Poland?
Czesław Miłosz and Julisz Słowacki. Difficult to pronunciation for me :D Sometimes I like to read poems. Rarely, but I like doing it. By chance I found out about these characters. Polish colleague told me about them. I tried to read in Polish language. It was not easy, but it was fun.
Describe the places in Poland, that have a positively influenced you:
Sopot! I lived in it throughout the year. I left a lot of memories there. When I was weaker moments. I was walking on the pier, I looked ahead and listen to your favorite music. Helped. In Sopot see student life. There are many cafes and clubs. Sometimes we went with friends to the group dance. It was colorful and fun. At the beginning, I felt insecure, but soon I found a new place
Tell us about the country you've always wanted to visit, but you still haven't:
I've always wanted to visit the United States of America. Everyone says that there are a lot of attractions and relaxed life.
Are you a member of any students' club or organization? Tell us something about it:
I wasn't a member of any student's club or organization. Free time I spent on travel.
Would you like to come back to Poland in the future? Why?
Yes! Of course. could come only for a year. Too short. Before I found the new environment, it took some time. I would like to visit my friends. I would also like to visit more places in Poland. In this country, there are plenty of events prepared specifically for students. I remember very well the period of study, and I hope that I will return here.
