Renato from Portugal about Poland
Who are you? Short bios. (where do you come from, where do you study? In which faculty, bachelor degree or master degree?)
My name is Renato Serra. I'm from Portugal in a small city near Lisbon called Almada. I study in Setúbal the course Informatics Engineering bachelor. In Wroclaw University of Technology- Computer Science.
What has surprised you in Poland?
The biggest surprise about Poland was certainly the cultural differences. People here have been very helpful and they like to have fun which is not what we imagine in Portugal before we meet Polish people.
How did you come up with the idea of studying in Poland?
Poland was not my first choice, I wanted to go to Scotland but due to some bureaucracies I couldn't. Now I'm happy I ended up coming here.
Do remember the early days of studying in Poland? Describe the struggles you went through.
The biggest difficulty I had in the beginning was definitely the language barrier. Polish people still have some difficulties with english even amongst the youngest people, but I also noticed some of them are just shy or afraid to "fail" because they say they can't speak English yet with time we learned if we insist on asking things they can understand and reply at least yes and no.

What's the difference between studies in Poland and studies in Portugal?
In Poland professors are usually a bit colder and distant when working with students, but I guess that a cultural difference and I'm used to Latin professors where in the end sometimes a nice professor can even become your friend which is nice. Also here professors are bit more uptight when it comes to rules.
Do you know any famous people from Poland?
I don't know any famous people from Poland (who is still alive).
Which places in Poland have a positive influence on you?
Wroclaw is so far my favorite city to live, it has a lot of young people, a lot of activities every day and Krakow is a great place to visit.
Number 1 country you have always wanted to visit but still haven't?
I always wanted to go to Australia, but its quite expensive so it will have to wait.
