Pio from Germany and his memories of Gdansk
Who are you? Briefly describe yourself (where do you come from, what do you study, etc.)
Hello. My name is Pio and I am 26 years old. I was an Erasmus student at the University of Gdańsk - Faculty of Economics studying business administration in the third year (BA). Before I did the Erasmus-Semester I lived in Poland, Germany and Australia.
What has surprised you in Poland?
I was really surprised how many beautiful women live here :-)
How did you come up with the idea of studying in Poland?
I definitely wanted to go a semester abroad. Scandinavia was very expensive and I don't understand French or Spanish. So the only option was East-Europe. I choose Poland because I have been here before many times.
Do you remember the first days of studying in Poland? Describe the struggles you went through:
I had a lot of trouble with registration. It seems like a never ending story. Another thing was the driving style in Poland.... quite ruff ;-).
Tell us about the differences between studies in Poland and studies in Germany:
Polish prof's seem to focus more on team spirit. I had a lot of lectures here in Poland where the examination method was some kind of group work (presentation, report etc.). The schedule is very nice over here. I had a lot of free time which I really appreciated.
Why did you choose Poland as a place for studying?
Because of my Polish roots. I also wanna learn to write in Polish and see more of the Polish culture. Poland is becoming more and more attractive for German global players and a lot of German employees still prefer to go to West-Europe for work. So it makes you very interesting if you have been here :-)
Do you know any famous people from Poland?
Podolski, Klose, Lewandowski,, Lech Wałęsa, Jan III Sobieski, Pan Tadeusz, Kopernik, Małysz, Komorowski, Kwaśniewski, Kaczyński, Leroy, Tede, Peja, Iwan I Delfin, Weekend
Describe the places in Poland, that have a positive influence on you:
Auschwitz (I thought a lot about it after been there), Kraków, Monte Cassino street in Sopot, Ego Club, Zakopane, DS 2 :-)
Tell us about the country you've always wanted to visit, but still haven't:
Definitely China. It is so different to our European culture. I would really like to go there and see the amazing buildings, landscape etc..
