Ona from Lithuania decides to study in Warsaw
Who are you? Briefly describe yourself (where do you come from, what do you study, etc.)
My name is Ona, I came from Lithuania, Kaunas city to the University of Warsaw as an exchange student of History.
What's your family, friends opinion about your studies in Poland?
My family and friends know me quite well to say, that I'm into adventures, on the other hand - reasonable though. I was studying Polish language at my home university and didn't know that much about Poland and Poles nowadays, so they were glad to hear, that I'm going to explore this country.
Tell us about inspiration about studies in Poland.
As I mentioned, studying History as my speciality, also Polish language, it was quite logic decision to come here to improve my language skills, also to know Polish country, what is it really like, but not how experiences, or worse - prejudices of someone described it to me. Also, knowing that history studies here are much more developed encouraged me too.
Enumerate the three places you would like to visit in Poland.
1. Marienburg castle (Malbork); 2. Gdańsk; 3. Zakopane
What determinant related to everyday life can convince you to choose Poland from among other countries?
I really like the fact, that Poland even when is getting Westernized still preserves its Eastern European features. By saying that I mean, that it has something unique, which I cannot describe yet and it gives me feeling, that I came here just on time, cause it won't be the same after some time. For example, it's very interesting to feel sometimes the same cosiness and comfort being in such a huge city as in my hometown. I guess, that these big industrial cities are losing it with the time.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Well, I'm here not for so long, so in my spare time I'm still trying to catch my family or friends online, to write them some news to my blog, which I made for them to know, what's happening. And for sure, I still love to take a long way home, everytime choosing some different route.
Do you know any famous people from Poland?
Sure, but not too many though. I know Marie Curie, F. Chopin, L. Wałęsa, Z. Brzeziński, T. Bagiński and others.
Would you take any memento or any item, that would remind you of Lithuania while studying in Poland? What would it be?
I'd like to remember as much as possible, so I'm trying to bring my camera with me all the time, also to write some memories to the blog I mentioned. The most important thing is to experience as much as possible, and if it's interesting, for sure I won't forget it.
Tell us about the country you've always wanted to visit, but still haven't:
I always wanted to visit Berlin and I'm glad to know, that my mentor, who became a good friend of mine already, will be my company going there! At the moment this is my goal.
Are you a member of any student's club or organization? Tell us something about it:
At my home university I used to be a member of ESN, the organization which is closely related to the international studies, and we were organizing them many activities to do, Cultural Nights, which had enrolled and are still doing great, Blood donation campaign and many others.
Out of all the television shows you have seen in the past 12 months, which is your most favourite?
Well, I don't watch TV or TV series that much, in fact, I cannot even remember what was the last show I've seen on TV. The last and, to my mind, worth to see movie was 'The Reader'.
