Irina from Russia

Who are you? Briefly describe yourself (where do you come from, what do you study, etc.)

Hi! My name is Irina and I am from Russia. I have studied in the University of Gdansk for two years. I finished a Master program in journalism and communication studies. Unfortunately, after graduating the University I had to go back to Russia and now I live in Saint-Petersburg.

What has surprised you in Poland?

I liked people's friendly and open-hearted attitude, beautiful nature. I was also surprised that many people know Russian language and some asked me to teach them Russian.

How did you come up with the idea of studying in Poland?

We moved with my parents, because of my father's job, so I didn't plan to come to Poland, it happened occasionally

Do you remember the first days of studying in Poland? Describe the struggles you went through:

It was pretty hard for me, I felt a bit shy because my Polish was very bad at that time. And on my first day I hardly understood the teachers and even couldn't imagine, how I'd pass exams.

Tell us about the differences between studies in Poland and studies in Russia?

In my opinion studies in Poland are more interesting. We had a lot of practice lessons, where we had to write a lot, to discuss what we wrote. Each teacher was a really interesting and professional personality, with rich working experience and I knew a lot of new things during my studies. Besides, studies in Poland are much cheaper, then in Russia.

What do you like about studying in Poland?

Everything :) It was a great time.

Do you know any famous people from Poland?

Yes, many. Andrzej Wajda, Andrzej Sapkowski, Krzysztof Zanussi, Ryszard Rynkowski, Barbara Brylska, Maryla Rodowicz, Anna Herman, Lech Walesa, of course Jan Pawel II and so on and so on.

Describe the places in Poland, that have a positive influence on you:

I love Gdynia, with its sea and parks and everything. It makes me feel at home.

Tell us about the country you've always wanted to visit, but still haven't:

I dream of England and Italy.

Are you a member of any student's club or organization? Tell us something about it:

No.

Would you like to come back to Poland in the future? Why?

Yes, I plan to visit Cracow on my nearest vacation. I know it's very beautiful and I want to go there and see everything myself.

If you run your own business or work anywhere, please tell us something about it (what is it, how many hours weekly do you work, etc.)

Now I work in a five-star hotel in Saint-Petersburg as a press-secretary of chef. Sounds a bit strange, but it's interesting, we discuss menus, promos, invent new dishes, etc.
