Greek student about studying in Gdynia
Who are you? Briefly describe yourself (where do you come from, what do you study, etc.)
I'm Ioanna and I'm from Greece. I'm studying Sociology in Panteion University. I came Erasmus in Gdynia on Polish Naval Academy for this semester. I'm 22 years old and I'm in my last year of my studies
What has surprised you in Poland?
The first thing that surprised me was the weather because the day that I left Greece the temperatures was about 35 degrees and I came to Poland and that day was about 12 degrees so you can imagine my first shock! I loved everything on Poland, I tried to visit many cities and I liked every city a lot. I like the architecture of old towns and also the way of living and the food of course!
How did you come up with the idea of studying in Poland?
When I was about to fill my application for Erasmus I have only three choices. The truth is that I had never think about Poland my choices were different. Now, I can say that I was lucky that they didn't pick me on my first three choices and after that they recommend me Poland. They show me a calendar of the university and I said "yes" and I'm not regretting that, I feel really lucky!
Do you remember the first days of studying in Poland? Describe the struggles you went through:
Of course I remember the first day. At first we started to meet with my Erasmus coordinator and then we found professors for the lessons I had picked to study here in Poland. Unfortunately, me and my friend that we came together for the Erasmus program were the first and the only Erasmus students in Polish Naval Academy. The lessons were quite good cause they were more than private lessons.
Tell us about the differences between studies in Poland and studies in Greece:
I can't say the differences between studying in Greece and studying in Poland cause as I already told you the lessons were a little bit peculiar so I can't compare the ways of studying. Cause actually I didn't see the real way of lessons. In general I'm very satisfied from the way the lessons were.
What do you like about studying in Poland?
In the lessons that I took part we were only three persons, the professor me and my friend that is also studying with me. I like the lessons cause were like private and we had better communication and the professors had better transmissibility.
Do you know any famous people from Poland?
Of course!I know Copernicus, Maria Curie, Polanski, Chopin and many others. You have a huge history and great culture.
Describe the places in Poland, that have a positive influence on you:
I don't understand exactly the question. It wasn't the places that have a positive influence on me but in general Erasmus experience. I learn to live alone and do everything by myself, in my opinion you're becoming more mature. Also, I met many people, I learn more things about the history of central Europe and the culture. My English became better cause it was the only way to communicate with everyone so I used to it. And many, many, many other things. In conclusion this experience was unique and I would never change any minute of it!
Tell us about the country you've always wanted to visit, but still haven't:
I don't have only one country that I want to visit, I have many! I want to visit many countries in Europe and also in Latin America.
Are you a member of any student's club or organization? Tell us something about it:
No, I'm not a member of student's club or organization because in Greece the system with universities and student's club is totally different. I liked your way that you just want to help students and you're working on it but in Greece the student's club in universities comes from big political parties and they have their own interests.
Would you like to come back to Poland in the future? Why?
In future I'll visit Poland for sure. I loved the country but also I made strong friendships and I met people and I visit places that I'll never forget and that I want to see again.
