Aziz from Turkey his time in Bydgoszcz
Who are you? Briefly describe yourself (where do you come from, what do you study, etc.)
My name is Aziz. I from İstanbul. I study "Wychowanie Fizyczne" at the Physical Education at the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz and work in movie industry in my country. I train martial arts and gymnastics.
What has surprised you in Poland?
After I land on Warsaw, I tried to talk with people in Polish which I learned a little bit in summer and I'm surprised that I can understand more than I think. Everything was familiar in Poland to me.
How did you come up with the idea of studying in Poland?
I make a little research and I see that Poland quite good at cinema art and has film schools like the Lodz Film School and has international film festivals like Camerimage. It was great for me to meet people from industry. I also know about Mariusz Zasada and Andrzej Szajna who are great on gymnastics and competed in 1976 Montreal Olimpics. I catched a great chance as being their student and training with them.
Do you remember the first days of studying in Poland? Describe the struggles you went through:
Before I came to Poland, I contacted my Erasmus mentor. So I didn't have any difficulty for accommodation. I just had a problem to change my Turkish money to Zloty. Kantors doesn't works with Turkish Lira. Later, I met a Turkish man who lives in Poland and he changed my all money to Zloty.
Tell us about the differences between studies in Poland and studies in Turkey:
There are lots of differences. Specially exams and life styles in akademik. For example girls and boys living in separate buildings in Turkiye. In Poland, they can live in same room too. I told this to my friends in Turkiye and they couldn't believe. Actually I understand that and I see Polish students are much more social.
What do you like about studying in Poland?
It's quite calm and quiet country. In İstanbul, everyday is another adventure. Here you can focus on studying and stay in rest. Also its not expensive to living here for students.
Do you know any famous people from Poland?
I know Marie Sklodowska-Curie, Krzysztof Kieslowski and Roman Polanski. I tried to contact Roman Polanski before I came here.
Describe the places in Poland, that have a positive influence on you:
Poland has very beautiful architecture. Poland protects its historical looks and it makes me feel very different when im walking on Poland's streets. This is why im calling Bydgoszcz as "City of Art". I love taking pictures here.
Tell us about the country you've always wanted to visit, but still haven't:
I travelled a lot and I saw a lot of countries. I think I would like to visit Far-East countries.
Are you a member of any student's club or organization? Tell us something about it:
I am a member of the board of directors of Cinema Club and member of Theatre Club. We are organizing short film screenings in Cinema Club. And In theatre club, I am working on my acting skills.
Would you like to come back to Poland in the future? Why?
I was in Erasmus program last year. I am back to Poland for visiting my teachers and friends. And I am sure I will come here often.
If you run your own business or work anywhere, please tell us something about it (what is it, how many hours weekly do you work, etc.)
I work as action director and actor in Turkish movie industry. I also have a studio for editing and special effects.
