Aneta from Bulgaria decided to study in Gdansk

Who are you? Briefly describe yourself (where do you come from, what do you study, etc.)

Hello! I am Aneta and I am from Bulgaria :) I am still 24 years old and I am in my Master's degree of Modern methods of synthesis and analysis of organic compounds. In Bulgaria I study in Sofia University in Faculty on Chemistry and Farmacy and here in Poland I study Chemical faculty of Gdańsk University of Technology.

What has surprised you in Poland?

Well, everything! Actually before I decided to come to study in Poland I didn't know so much about Poland and about the culture. I love it here! I don't know if it is because of Erasmus life or Poland at all, but love living here. I like that even so far from Bulgaria it looks like home here. I didn't need time to adapt to Poland, because from the very beginning i feel like home.

How did you come up with the idea of studying in Poland?

It was just a feeling! :) I was walking in the hallway in my faculty and I was passing by the board with announcements and between all the different sheets of paper and posters I just saw only "Poland" and it was with very small size of the letters :) Then I looked at it closer and I saw it was the list with universities for Erasmus and I applied immediately. It was just a very strong feeling that I have to go there!

Do you remember the first days of studying in Poland? Describe the struggles you went through:

Yes, I remember! But i wouldn't describe it like struggles or problems. I think that the struggles for me were before I came here, because it was like one month before the start of the school year I still didn't have any letter from my faculty and I didn't know anything about my courses. But when I came here everything came to its place. I had a room at the dormitories, I came at the same say as my roommate, my mentor was waiting for me at the airport and was with me from one month, when I had to say Goodbye to a lot of my friends that are leaving after the first semester

Tell us about the differences between studies in Poland and studies in Bulgaria:

Well, I heard that there is a difference between courses in English and Polish, so since I am having only the English courses I can comment only them. I think that the studies here and in Bulgaria are more or less the same. The difference is that in Bulgaria if I study chemistry, I can't have courses in Microbiology or Biotechnology, for example, and here I can have them, and that is why I signed for them.

What do you like about studying in Poland?

I like the fact that I study in Poland! It is new place, new people, the studies are in different language and it is a challenge for everyone for sure. I like that even if I am the only Erasmus in my classes, I don't feel like outsider.

Do you know any famous people from Poland?

Of course Madam Curie, Frederyk Chopin, Nicolaus Copernicus.

Describe the places in Poland, that have a positive influence on you:

I would say that everywhere i have been in Poland, I feel the positive influence, but for sure the old town in Gdańsk holds the first place for now ;) I love just to walk there in doesn't matter if it is during the day or in the evening. Walking by the riverside, passing by all the amber jewellery shops, the ships.

Tell us about the country you've always wanted to visit, but still haven't:

For sure I want to go to Ireland, Scotland and Australia. These are the three countries that I really want to visit!

Are you a member of any student's club or organization? Tell us something about it:

I wouldn't say that it is an organization. In Bulgaria me, a professor and a colleague of mine were making lots of performances and shows all around Sofia, Bulgaria and we even went for a few times abroad, showing the funny and exciting side of Chemistry and Science

Have you made any permanent relations with Polish students? What you like the most in them?

Well, for now I have few Polish friends that we go out together and go on trips, but I guess time will show how permament these relations are. I will try too keep them longterm for sure :)

Would you like to come back to Poland in the future? Why?

Oh, absolutely! I would be happy to come back at least once a year and if we could do like Re-union with my Erasmus friends it would be fantastic
