Interview with Sara Marques from Portugal her studies in Warsaw

Who are you? Briefly describe yourself (where do you come from, what do you study, etc.)

My name is Sara, I am 22 and I am from Portugal. I'm studying nursing in Lisbon at the last year. I decided to do ERASMUS in my last year, to have a different experience in a different country during 3 months. I am now studying in Warsaw at the Medical University of Warsaw.

What has surprised you in Poland?

Poland its very different from Portugal, so everything was new for me. The weather its completely different and it changes everything. For example, in Portugal we have the sun until 7pm during the winter and all the people spend a lot of time outside, in Poland the time of the sun it's too small and people seems more reserved.

How did you come up with the idea of studying in Poland?

When I decided to have a different experience, studying abroad, my teacher ask me to choose a country in Europe, all the offers were so different and one of them was Poland. I decided to choose Poland because it's completely different from my country, the localization it's good to travel, and the life its good because it's cheaper than Portugal. And I have a lot of friends that have made Erasmus in Poland, and they love the experience, so I decided to come.

Do you remember the first days of studying in Poland? Describe the struggles you went through:

My firsts days in Poland were very strange because the context its so different, the money it's different and I don't know how to talk in Polish, so in my first days was a new life and I started to deal with that.

Tell us about the differences between studies in Poland and studies in Portugal:

I am studying nurse, and in Poland I only have practice in the hospital. So its too different because I don't know Polish, so its difficult to talk with the patients. But ist very good, because during 3 months I saw very different things, and all the teacher try to make a very good time to us.

What do you like about studying in Poland?

I like the experience of being in Poland during 3 months, studying and enjoying my free time. But its so different from my country, that I think I could not leave here. But for a different experience and to have a very good time studying abroad, Poland it's a perfect country.

Do you know any famous people from Poland?

Describe the places in Poland, that have a positive influence on you:

I am in Warsaw, that's a big city, so its so easy to enjoy my free time. Here I have a lot of parks, coffees, the old town, where I can take my time with a coffee and enjoy everything.

Tell us about the country you've always wanted to visit, but still haven't:

I have been visiting all the countries that I liked, so I am a lucky person :D

Are you a member of any student's club or organization? Tell us something about it:

I am a member of my Associations of students in Portugal, in my University, so I deal all the time with the students trying to help them with the problems.

Would you like to come back to Poland in the future? Why?

Maybe I will return, in spring or summer, because I want to see Poland with a different weather.

Have you made any permanent relations with polish students? What you like the most in them?

No, because I spend all the time with the Erasmus students in my residence, so its difficult to meet the polish students.
